The Object of Poker
There is no single version poker, instead there are many variations. All of them are generally played with a standard deck of 52 cards. A standard deck consists of of thirteen different ranks of cards, and they are: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Each of these cards comes in four different suits: Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades.
Texas Holdem Poker
Texas Hold'em, is a poker game in which each poker player receives 2 cards dealt face down, while 5 cards are dealt face up on the table. All players play with their best 5 cards in any combination of their 2 down cards and the 5 common cards on the table. The best five card poker hand wins.
Seven Card Stid Poker
Seven Card Stud is a poker game in which each poker player is dealt 2 cards face down, then 4 cards face up and the final river card is dealt face down. All players play with their best 5 cards in any combination. The best five card poker hand wins.
Seven Card Stud Hi Lo Poker
Plays generally like Seven Card Stud poker except that the pot gets split between the best high poker hand and the best low poker hand. Typically, you must have an 8 or better to qualify for low.
Omaha Hi Poker
Omaha Hi is a poker game in which each poker player is dealt four cards face down, and five community cards are dealt face up in the center of the table. All poker players play with their best 5 cards but they must use 2 pocket cards in combination with 3 community cards. The best five card poker hand wins.
Omaha Hi Lo Poker
Plays generally like Omaha Hi except that the pot gets split between the best high poker hand and the best low poker hand. Typically, you must have an 8 or better to qualify for low.
Five Card Draw Poker
Five card draw poker is a traditional poker game in which each poker player is dealt five cards. After betting, you are allowed to exchange up to five cards for new cards. The best five card poker hand wins.
